Rabbits

Woodhall Hills Rabbits Section

For those members with who struggle to achieve a low teens or single figure handicap this section provides the opportunity to play competitive golf at a number of different levels. Members of the Rabbits are eligible to play in :

Bradford and District Rabbits Association Competitions

Leeds and District Rabbits Association Competitions

Yorkshire Rabbits Golf Association Competitions

Woodhall Hills Golf Club “in house” knock out competitions

Who qualifies?

Bradford                18 years old or above, Minimum WHI             15.5

Leeds                     18 years old or above, Minimum  WHI            15.0

Yorkshire               18 years old or above, Minimum  WHI            15.0

In house                 18 years old or above, Minimum WHI       15.0

How do I Join the section?(competitions managed by Alan Cooper)

Subscriptions to the Rabbits section cost £4 and can be paid via Howdidido by going to the “Knock Outs” section, then scrolling down and selecting the Rabbits Subs 2023 option. However, if you enter all 3 Rabbits knock out competitions (Mel Smart singles, Wood Cup singles and Rabbits Pairs KO) and pay entry to these you do not have to pay the £4 subscription. The Harry Child Trophy will be played for by 7 day members on the Saturdays when the Club plays the monthly mod bogs and monthly medals for the months of April to September. Each individual’s best 9 scores out of a possible 12 will count.

Bradford Rabbits (team selection managed by Ron Farnell)

We are currently in Division D of the Bradford league. There are 6 teams in the league and we all play the other 5 teams both home and away. Matches start late afternoon Thursdays and run from 4th May to 13th July. Matches are individual match play with 3 representatives from each club with 1 in each handicap range 15.5-17.4, 17.5-20.4 and 20.5 and upwards. Matches are then played with no shots given or received. For more information go to www.brdga.net/league and click on league. Fixture list will be posted on the Rabbits notice board

The Bradford Rabbits also run an inter club Knock out “The Chippendale Trophy”. Each team shall consist of 2 players with no more than 1 player having a WHI of 20.4 or less, the match being foursome.The first round is to be played by 7th May. Once again details are available on www.brdga.net/chippendale

There are also a number of Sunday events through the season.

Presidents Cup, Sunday 4th June West Bradford Golf Club

18 Hole Club Championship, Sunday 30th July Baildon Golf Club

Team Championship, Sunday 10th September Bracken Ghyll Golf Club

Flight Path League (team selection managed by Ron Farnell)

This is a “friendly” league started by a former stalwart of Woodhall Hills Golf Club Rabbits Section, Mel Smart. It includes Rawdon GC, Fulneck GC, Bradford Moor GC, Hollins Hall GC, Calverley GC and Woodhall Hills GC. All teams play each other home and away on Thursday evenings starting early May through to early August. Matches are played on a 4 ball better ball basis, with 3 teams of two, with shots taken off the lowest WHI player.

Leeds Rabbits (team selection managed by Trevor Shaw)

The LDRGA run a league, 3 Sunday Competitions and an individual match play knockout competition, The Ken Dodgson Trophy and a pairs match play knockout, The Taylor Trophy.

The League comprises of one 2 man team with shots taken off the lowest WHI player. Following a good season in 2022 Woodhall Hills GC are now in the Premier Division.

The Sunday Competitions are

The Tom Howard Trophy 11th June, Low Laithes Golf Club

Team Championship 9th July, Calverley GC

Pinder Trophy 6th August, venue still to be arranged.

The Ken Dodgson Trophy is an individual match play competition in which all rabbits from clubs affiliated to the LDRGA may enter. The cost of entry is only £2.50 and you could be drawn to play at any club within LDRGA. Entries should be sent to Trevor Shaw by 20th March 2023 (trevor777.shaw@gmail .com)

The Taylor Trophy is a pairs matchplay knockout competition with each club being able to enter 2 teams with strokes being taken from the player with the lowest WHI.

Yorkshire Rabbits (team selection managed by Trevor Shaw)

The YRGA run an inter club knock out competition called the Fowler Trophy. This is a foursomes tournament played off scratch over 18 holes. Each club can enter 2 teams with one player being in the WHI range 15-19.4 and the other 19.5-54. For more information see www.yrga.co.uk/Fowler
